At the same time, this small town is also home to some of the most thrilling adventure activities in the country. Rishikesh is well known for the plethora of adrenalin-fuelling experiences that it offers and some of the best adventures in Rishikesh are listed below. Adventure activities in Rishikesh –
1. RIVER RAFTING
River rafting is an activity almost synonymous with Rishikesh. The 37 km long flowing Ganga at the foothill of the Himalayas makes the location perfect for this. There are ample opportunities along the river for both novices as well as seasoned rafters. The Kaudiyal route is for most advanced rafters, with about 13 major rapids. It takes about 8-9 hours ( 3 to 4 hrs ) . The route from Brahmapuri to Rishikesh is well-suited for beginners/families with grade 1-2 rapids. The most popular ones are Shivpuri down but we highly recommend marine drive down for thebest experience. Rapids in Rishikesh have names, for example – The Wall, Three Blind Mice, Good Morning, Roller Coaster , Golf Course , Body Surfing to name few popular ones. A trip to Rishikesh is definitely incomplete without a river rafting experience.
2. BUNGEE JUMPING
Rishikesh is now home to the highest bungee jump in the country. The jump point is around 25 km from Rishikesh. At a height of 83 meters, looking down from the jump platform is sure to give you goosebumps. The sight of the mountain rocks and gurgling water below make the adventure even more thrilling. Without a doubt, bungee jumping here is one of the safest in the country and a must-do if you can muster up the courage.

3. GIANT SWING
If you couldn’t get over the bungee jump and need some more adventure, go for a round of the giant swing. Conducted at the same place, this activity involves a free fall from the jump platform and then swinging between two cliffs. The upswing proffers great views of the lush greenery and that may almost be enough to stop you from screaming. We said almost.

4. FLYING FOX
As the name suggests, this activity involves ‘flying’ over the Ganges. Generally done in groups of 3, the activity involves being attached to a harness and zipping through strong cables. Starting from 120m, the journey takes you down to almost just 7m above the river at a crazy speed of 140 kmph and then pulls you back again. If you’ve always wanted to channel your superhero, then buy a cape and get on this ride!

5. RAPPELLING & ROCK CLIMBING
Rock climbing is an activity most of us are acquainted with. However, not many can boast of having done it in the picturesque setting of the Himalayas. Rishikesh has many operators conducting this experience for people of all experience levels. So whatever your fitness level, give this fun activity a try and climb up a mountain. Come down by rappelling, i.e. using a harnessed rope or similar equipment. The operators conduct introductory sessions for people, so make the most of it and try your hand at it!
6. WATERFALL RAPPELLING
If rappelling wasn’t challenging enough for you, try the unique experience of waterfall rappelling! The rope is strapped on to your body and the descent is coupled with the incessant stream of water hitting from above. The experience is unlike any other and will definitely be one to boast about. 7. KAYAKING
Second only to river rafting, kayaking is the next most popular activity in Rishikesh. The Ganges offers some great rapids for all levels of expertise. Just choose the right one for your skill level and combined with some basic instructions, you’re good to go. The river offers great stretches for this activity and also some very picturesque views while at it.
8. PARAGLIDING
Nothing quite beats the thrill of flying through air, feeling weightless like a bird. Paragliding in Rishikesh will make you forget all your worries while you soar through the air. A powered parachute driven by an experienced pilot will take you up in the air and give you a bird’s eye view of the enchanting town. See the river glistening in the sunlight or the many temples lining the ghats, the greenery all around or the mighty Himalayas. You may be soaring in the air for a while but your spirits will soar for quite some time even after you’re back on the ground!
9. TREKKING
Sitting at the foothill of the Himalayas, Rishikesh is full of trekking opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts. October-March is the perfect time to go trekking and one can chase waterfalls or take a trail up to a temple. These treks are short and offer a close encounter with nature.
10. MOUNTAIN BIKING
If trekking on your feet is too mainstream for you, try mountain biking. Certainly not for beginners, this activity involves a fair amount of dexterity and fitness. There are off roads and tough terrains to negotiate over and one will find no dearth of challenges on the way. Add to that the spectacular views and this definitely promises to be an experience to write home about.
